From daughter to elder — curated Quran verses, authentic Hadees and practical Islamic guidance at every milestone of a Muslim woman's life.

Stage 1 of 5
As a Daughter

In Islam, a daughter is not a burden — she is a blessing and a door to Jannah for her parents. The Prophet ﷺ elevated the status of daughters at a time when Arabia buried them alive. A daughter has the right to love, education, equal treatment and a good future.

"To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He creates what He wills. He gives daughters to whom He wills and gives sons to whom He wills."
ExplanationAllah Himself describes daughters as a gift He gives to whom He chooses. A daughter is not a misfortune — she is a deliberate choice of Allah. This verse came to challenge the pre-Islamic attitude of grief at the birth of daughters. She is a blessing, chosen by Allah for her family.
Surah Ash-Shura — 42:49
The Noble Quran
"Whoever has three daughters and is patient with them, feeds them, gives them to drink and clothes them from his wealth — they will be a shield for him from the Fire on the Day of Resurrection."
ExplanationDaughters are a source of protection from Hell for their parents — if raised with love, patience and care. Raising a daughter well is a direct act of worship and an investment in one's afterlife. This turned daughters from "shame" to salvation in Islamic understanding.
Sunan Ibn Majah — 3669
Book of Etiquette
"Whoever is tested with daughters and treats them well, they will be a veil for him from the Fire."
ExplanationThe word "tested" here does not mean daughters are a burden — it means Allah has given parents an opportunity through daughters to earn Jannah. Kindness to daughters is a test that, when passed with love, brings enormous reward.
Sahih Bukhari — 1418
Book of Zakat
Your rights as a daughter
You have the right to: equal treatment with your brothers, education, love and care from your parents, a good future and marriage of your choice with your consent, financial support until marriage, and respect for your opinion in family decisions.
Your responsibilities as a daughter
Treat your parents with the highest respect and kindness. Never say "uff" to them (Al-Isra 17:23). Obey them in what is good. Pray for them. Care for them in their old age — this is one of the greatest acts of worship in Islam.
Stage 2 of 5
As a Student

Islam made the pursuit of knowledge an obligation — for men and women equally. The greatest female scholar in Islamic history, Aisha (RA), narrated over 2,000 hadees and taught men and women alike. A Muslim woman who seeks knowledge is fulfilling a religious duty.

"Read — in the name of your Lord who created."
ExplanationThe very first word revealed to the Prophet ﷺ was "Read" (Iqra). Knowledge and learning are the very foundation of Islam. This command is for all Muslims — there is no version of Islam that restricts a woman from reading, learning or seeking knowledge.
Surah Al-Alaq — 96:1
The Noble Quran
"And say: My Lord, increase me in knowledge."
ExplanationAllah commanded the Prophet ﷺ to make this dua — and by extension it is the dua of every believer. Asking Allah for more knowledge is a Prophetic act. A Muslim woman who prays this every day is following the Sunnah.
Surah Ta-Ha — 20:114
The Noble Quran
"Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim."
ExplanationThis is among the most famous hadees in Islam. "Every Muslim" includes every Muslim woman. Scholars have always included women in this obligation. Education — Islamic and worldly — is not optional for women; it is a religious duty.
Sunan Ibn Majah — 224
Book of Knowledge
How to seek knowledge as a Muslim woman
Start with the Quran — learn to read, understand and memorise. Study hadees and Islamic fiqh. Pursue worldly education that benefits your community. The women of the Sahaba were teachers and scholars — you carry that legacy forward.
Dua for students
(Rabbi zidni ilma) — "My Lord, increase me in knowledge." The Prophet ﷺ taught us to begin all good things with Allah's name and to ask Him for guidance in learning.
Stage 3 of 5
As a Wife

Marriage in Islam is described as tranquility, love and mercy — a partnership between two believing people. As a wife, you have comprehensive rights that your husband is obligated to fulfil. You also have responsibilities that bring enormous reward from Allah.

"And among His signs is that He created for you mates from among yourselves so that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you love and mercy."
ExplanationThis verse defines the Islamic ideal of marriage: mawaddah (deep love) and rahmah (mercy and compassion). A marriage built on these two things is a sign of Allah's power. Every wife has the right to a marriage built on love and mercy — not fear, obligation or oppression.
Surah Ar-Rum — 30:21
The Noble Quran
"They are clothing for you, and you are clothing for them."
ExplanationHusband and wife are described as garments for each other — completely mutual. Clothing protects, covers, adorns and is close. This metaphor means husband and wife are equal partners in intimacy, protection and honour. She is not below him; she is his garment as he is hers.
Surah Al-Baqarah — 2:187
The Noble Quran
"Your wives have rights over you, and you have rights over them."
ExplanationFrom the Prophet's ﷺ Farewell Sermon — his final public speech to all of Islam. Rights in marriage are mutual and enforceable. A wife's rights include: financial maintenance, kind treatment, physical protection, emotional care, and the right to seek divorce if seriously wronged.
Sunan Ibn Majah — 1851
Book of Nikah
Your rights as a wife
You have the right to: mahr (dowry) that is yours alone, financial maintenance (food, clothing, shelter), kind and respectful treatment, not being harmed physically or emotionally, seeking divorce (khula) if the marriage is harmful, keeping your own earnings and property, and visiting your own family.
Stage 4 of 5
As a Mother

No role in Islam carries more honour than motherhood. The Prophet ﷺ mentioned the mother three times before the father. Allah mentioned the hardships of pregnancy and childbirth in the Quran. Jannah is said to lie beneath the feet of mothers. A mother's status in Islam is unparalleled.

"And We have enjoined upon man care for his parents. His mother carried him through weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents."
ExplanationAllah acknowledged the mother's physical suffering — "weakness upon weakness" — directly in the Quran. Gratitude to mothers is placed right after gratitude to Allah. This is the highest ranking possible for any human being's contribution to another. A mother's sacrifice is seen by Allah.
Surah Luqman — 31:14
The Noble Quran
"Your mother, then your mother, then your mother, then your father."
ExplanationWhen asked who most deserves good treatment, the Prophet ﷺ named the mother three times. The repetition is deliberate — three times the right, three times the reward for those who honour her, and three times the warning for those who neglect her. A mother holds a position in Islam that no other person holds.
Sahih Bukhari — 5971
Book of Manners
"Paradise lies under the feet of mothers."
ExplanationThis is perhaps the most powerful statement about mothers in all of Islamic literature. Jannah — the ultimate goal of every believer — is accessed through serving and honouring the mother. Every act of kindness to your mother is a step toward Paradise.
Sunan Ibn Majah — 2781
Book of Jihad
Your rights as a mother
You have the right to: obedience and respect from your children, financial support from your adult sons, priority in custody of young children after divorce, being spoken to with complete gentleness (no "uff"), care and service in old age, and having your duas for your children answered.
Stage 5 of 5
As an Elder

Old age in Islam is not a period of loss — it is a time of profound honour, closeness to Allah, and the harvest of a lifetime of good deeds. An elderly Muslim woman who prays, remembers Allah and raised a righteous family is surrounded by the mercy of Allah.

"Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and that you be kind to parents. Whether one or both reach old age in your presence, do not say to them 'uff'."
ExplanationThis verse specifically addresses old age — Allah protects elderly parents by forbidding even the smallest disrespect. An elderly Muslim woman has the right to absolute kindness, patience and honour from her children. Her old age is a time when she should be served, not made to feel a burden.
Surah Al-Isra — 17:23
The Noble Quran
"He is not one of us who does not show mercy to our young and respect to our elders."
ExplanationHonouring the elderly is a defining characteristic of a Muslim. A society that disrespects its elderly women — mothers, grandmothers, aunts — has lost a core Islamic value. Every elderly woman deserves tawqir: reverence, respect and care.
Sunan Abu Dawud — 4943
Book of Manners
Worship in old age
If you cannot stand for long prayers, sit. If you cannot fast, give fidya. If you cannot do Hajj, your prior years of worship are preserved. Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. Your dhikr, your duas, your love for Allah — these continue to earn reward until your last breath.
Your rights as an elder
You have the right to: complete respect and gentleness from your children and grandchildren, financial care and shelter, not being left alone or neglected, having your religious practices accommodated, and being honoured in your community for your lifetime of service and sacrifice.
